Our Lineage
We recognize how Healing Realms is intricately interwoven with our broader community, and the whole web of life.
Our Land
Our office sits on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples, the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula, who understood the interconnectedness of all things. We honor Indigenous elders (past, present, and future) who have stewarded this land throughout the generations. We also extend deep gratitude to the land itself, as well as the entire biosphere that supports us, without which this whole human adventure in consciousness would not be possible.
Our Traditions
The most recent resurgence of psychedelic medicine/research is inextricably informed by Indigenous and traditional plant sacrament communities, and we encourage acts of sacred reciprocity to express solidarity and appreciation for those who have carried this knowledge for millennia.
Our Teachers
Our practice stands on the shoulders of giants; we express enormous gratitude to those who came before us and generously shared their wisdom. Some of our team members participated in advanced training in therapeutic ketamine with Dr. Raquel Bennett at KRIYA Institute, and we all honor her courageous and longstanding commitment to educating the world about this sacred medicine. Dr. Bob Grant received mentorship in the ketamine field from Phil Wolfson, Julane Andries, and Alison McInnes, as well as from Ralph Metzner and William Richards in the broader field of psychedelic medicine.
We thank shamanic healer and teacher Françoise Bourzat for her leadership and vision in bringing her training with the medicine women of the Mazatec tribe into conversation with modern psychotherapy. Her lineage traces back to Dr. Salvador Roquet (a Mexican psychiatrist and early ketamine pioneer) and Julieta Casimiro (an indigenous Mazatec elder and a contemporary of Maria Sabina).
Some of our team completed additional certification at California Institute of Integral Studies in Psychedelic Therapy and Research, and appreciate the work that Dr. Janis Phelps has done to realize this groundbreaking training program. Many of our team members have participated in parts of the MDMA Therapy Training Program; we are indebted to Dr. Rick Doblin and the rest of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) organization for their tireless advocacy to bring psychedelics back into safe, legal, and research-backed beneficial use. Additionally, some of us have experience with the psychedelic harm reduction program Zendo Project in supporting people to safely transform difficult experiences into growth opportunities, and value how this informs our work.
Our work is heavily influenced by concepts from Internal Family Systems, which embraces the multiplicity of the mind and the importance of consent from all parts of the psyche. Dr. Bob Grant acknowledges his mentors Richard Schwartz and Kay Gardener for supporting his certification as an IFS therapist; others in our group have completed the IFS Open Circle online program.

Our Community
Our practice was fortunate enough to co-evolve alongside the other Bay Area KAP practices Polaris Insight Center, Sage Integrative Health / Sage Institute, and Temenos Center for Integrative Psychotherapy, and are deeply nourished by the mutual support as we venture into this novel treatment field together. We have also enjoyed extensive consultation from many talented peers in the field at both the KRIYA Conference and ASKP events.
Our Culture
As harm reduction and social justice-oriented practitioners, we believe that those of us involved in the most recent psychedelic renaissance must acknowledge the perilous impact of the last century's misinformed and persecutory War on Drugs, especially on people/communities of color.
We donate a portion of profits each month to the Drug Policy Alliance, who advocate for decriminalization policies and promote health/justice-centered attitudes towards drug use. We encourage our team and those in community around us to speak out against our nation's drug policies that serve to incarcerate and disenfranchise millions of people. and work to envision a more equitable world.
We stand in solidarity with those collectively raising their voices to affirm that Black lives matter. We also have partnered with therapists of color to provide their group practice with training opportunities in KAP, as well as consult with them about approaching psychedelic medicine with cultural humility, inquiring about best practices as we learn and grow.
